Industrial demand fuels China’s dominance in global LNG market Japan’s LNG demand declines amid nuclear restarts and renewables expansion
HIROSHIMA: China is projected to remain the world’s leading buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2024 and 2025, driven by robust industrial demand, according to Keisuke Sadamori, a director at the International Energy Agency (IEA).
After overtaking Japan last year as the top LNG importer, China is expected to see a 16% rise in gas demand by 2025. The IEA also highlighted India’s growing LNG consumption, set to increase by 9% this year. Meanwhile, Europe may face tighter LNG supplies if no new Russian gas transit deal with Ukraine is reached by year-end.
